How to enroll Windows mobile devices
Hexnode supports Windows from 8.1 and above. The enrollment steps vary for Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 slightly due to the placement of Work Account in the device settings. Essentially, the process is same for both OS versions. Windows mobile devices can be enrolled in 3 different ways.
Enrollment without authentication
Here, the user can enroll their windows devices with the enrollment URL and a default password provided in the MDM console. Unlike other platforms, the Windows devices needs a password for enrollment. The password will be present in the Hexnode MDM console by default. The admin can change this password according to their wish. The password is available at Admin > Enrollment > Authentication Modes > No Authentication > Default Password.
In a Windows 10 mobile device,
- In device settings, select Access work or school.
- Select Enrol only in device management.
- Enter the default user email which is defined in the enrollment settings.
- Enter the server URL which will be in the format: https://<portalname>.hexnodemdm.com.
- Enter the default password which is defined in the enrollment settings. ( Leave the username field empty as it is used for AD based enrollment)
- Click Finish.
In a Windows 8.1 mobile device,
- In the device settings, select Workplace.
- Click on Add account and enter the user’s email address.
- Click Sign in.
- Enter the server name and click Sign in.
- Enter the password that is specified in the Enrollment settings (in Admin tab) in the portal. Do not provide the user name and domain as it is used for AD based enrollment.
- Click Sign in and click Done.
Email or SMS enrollment
Here, the user will receive an enrollment request with enrollment URL, username and password.
In a Windows 10 mobile device,
- In device settings, select Access work or school.
- Select Enrol only in device management.
- Enter the user email id mentioned in the enrollment request mail.
- Enter the server URL which will be in the format: https://<portalname>.hexnodemdm.com.
- Enter the password received in the enrollment request mail. ( Leave the username field empty as it is used to authenticate the AD username and password)
- Click Finish.
In a Windows 8.1 mobile device,
- In the device settings, select Workplace.
- Click on Add account and enter the user’s email address.
- Click Sign in.
- Enter the server name and click Sign in.
- Enter the password that was received via the enrollment mail. Do not provide the Domain name as it is used for AD based enrollment.
- Click Sign in and click Done.
Active Directory based enrollment or Self Enrollment
The user can enroll their device with their Active Directory credentials. Here, the admin may provide the enrollment URL alone.
In a Windows 10 mobile device,
- In device settings, select Access work or school.
- Select Enrol only in device management.
- Enter the user email id.
- Enter the server URL which will be in the format: https://<portalname>.hexnodemdm.com.
- Enter the domain name and user name in the format domain\username
- Enter the Active Directory password.
- Click Finish.
In a Windows 8.1 mobile device,
- In the device settings, select Workplace.
- Click on Add account and enter the user’s email address.
- Click Sign in.
- Enter the server name and click Sign in.
- Enter the domain and username in the format : domain\username
- Enter the Active Directory password.
- Click Sign in and click Done.
